When we forget the big things
Acting for a better future for all
Seeing the Christ in every person
Lord Have Mercy
When we forget the small things
Acts of kindness like a smile or a hug
To make someone’s life a bit brighter
Lord Have Mercy
These are just some
Of the same prayers we offer
Day in and day out
Lord Have Mercy
What about the poor we allow to hungry
They must have did something
Why else is that big poor family homeless
Lord Have Mercy
Or why do they take that welfare
Don’t they know people call it a handout?
We shouldn’t bring them in to our fold
Lord Have Mercy
We know what they said to that gay teen was wrong
But I can’t rock the boat
I’m scared of confronting the big bad wolf
Lord Have Mercy
We can’t stand up for every religious person
There’s too much hate—too little time
Besides, what can I change?
Lord Have Mercy
Yes we must stop institutional racism
But what conversations do we have
Looking in that mirror is awfully hard
Lord Have Mercy
Let’s put out guns everywhere!
Doesn’t matter if our youth or people of color get shot!
Doesn’t matter if it’s just a woman escaping her abuser!
ALL WE NEED IS A GOOD GUY WITH A GUN?!
RIGHT?!
For the love of everything…
Lord Have Mercy
